That Lucas and his family are leaders in Canephora cultivation in Brazil was clearly demonstrated again in the first weeks of this year: in addition to winning the local quality competition of the BSCA (Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association), Lucas was also invited by the CQI (Coffee Quality Institute) to the Coffee Festival in Madrid to give a presentation on quality in Canephora cultivation.
Fortunately, Lucas found time in his schedule to include a day and a half in Zurich before the event in Madrid.
It all started last Thursday with a visit to Glarner Kaffee in Frauenfeld. I met Marcus, the managing director of the roastery and attached café, at the Swiss Coffee Festival in Zurich, and he was enthusiastic about our direct trade approach and also about the by-products (coffee cherries and blossoms).
Lucas gave us a short tour of the roastery, followed by a tasting of various coffees. It's always impressive how different the same coffee can taste depending on the roast. We also experimented a lot with the coffee cherries for the upcoming summer season.

Next, we visited Ole Bull in Brugg, with whom we produce our compostable capsules. There, we also tested various coffees, focusing on espresso extraction, and discussed the future of capsules and other forms of so-called monodoses (single-serve portions such as capsules, drip bags, pads, etc.).

On Friday, we visited downtown Zurich. There we visited
We visited some well-known and friendly coffee shops like Mame and Rent-a-Barista and were inspired by their businesses.
Finally, there was time for a quick lunch at Maison Küsnacht. Lucas' coffee has been served here since December and immediately received the quality seal from the producer himself (see the article's cover photo).
Thus ended a successful visit during our transit, which once again brought us a step further in our mission to bring together Brazilian producers and European partners and customers.
